🎉 Last week, Sikeud Village celebrated the Boun Phavat festival! 🎊
AfC teachers and students visited the temple to honor King Phavat. Legend has it that he sacrificed everything, even his elephant, to aid his people during a drought. Banished unjustly, he later returned, bringing prosperity.
His story inspires resilience and kindness.

🎉 We couldn’t be prouder of Outh Sinhmina, a Lao graduate from BHS Corrugated, who was honored yesterday by the Vocational School Center Weiden as one of the top graduates of the academic year 2023/24! 🏆✨ The ceremony was attended by members of the Vocational School Advisory Board, IHK chamber representatives, company trainers, members of the teaching staff, and the press.
Outh embarked on his journey from being a student at the primary and secondary school in Laos, supported by the "Angels for Children" foundation, and completed vocational training as a mechanic at the Lao-German Technical College. In winter 2020, he ventured into a new chapter in Germany, undertaking a dual vocational training program as an industrial mechanic at BHS Corrugated. Upon successfully completing his training in winter 2023/24, he proudly signed a job contract. Now, Outh installs and repairs machines for BHS Corrugated’s customers across Germany.

Last week, we celebrated the graduation of our first three Lao trainees at BHS Corrugated in Germany: Xokxay and Outh, who completed his training as an industrial mechanic, and Panhiayang, who graduated as an electronics technician for industrial engineering. 🎓🌟

Over the weekend, we celebrated Carnival with our Lao students in Germany. 🎉 It was an incredible mix of cultures and costumes. From traditional outfits to creative costumes, everyone brought their unique flair to the festivities. Cheers to good times and cultural exchanges!

We at Angels for Children Foundation are thrilled to announce that the Big Band of the German Army, Germany’s leading big band, will be joining forces with British trumpet virtuoso Louis Dowdeswell for our annual fundraising project, Legends for Children 2.
Our aim this year is to create a new charity video to raise funds for the education of "our" children in Laos. The brainchild behind this initiative is trombonist Dr. Markus Ringer, who composed the brass orchestra piece "Believe in You" specifically for Legends for Children.
Recording sessions took place last week at the Hansahaus Studios in Bonn. Following this, we’ll be producing the donation video, with the invaluable assistance of three students from the University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden specializing in media production.
Thank you to all involved for supporting this meaningful cause. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of these children. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and ways you can contribute!

🌟 Meet Xokxay: From Student to Skilled Industrial Mechanic! 🛠️
Xokxay’s journey is nothing short of inspiring! 🌟 He started as a student at the Primary and Secondary Schools in Sikeud and Phang Heng, supported by the AfC Foundation. In 2019, he completed his vocational training as a mechanic at the Lao-German Technical College.
Fast forward to August 2019, Xokxay embarked on a new adventure in Germany, joining BHS Corrugated for an apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic. After successfully completing his training last year, he proudly signed a contract with BHS. Now, he’ll be installing and repairing machines for BHS customers across Germany.
But Xokxay’s journey doesn’t end there! Recently, he visited his hometown in Laos, where he returned to his old school to share his experiences. 🏡 From life in Germany to his training and work at BHS Corrugated, he inspired the younger generation with his story.
Xokxay’s dedication and success serve as a testament to the power of education and determination. 🌟 Let’s cheer him on as he continues to make waves in the world of industrial mechanics! 🚀

Dear friends and supporters, We are thrilled to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our Foundation Angels for Children in Laos! Yesterday, over 400 guests gathered, including distinguished guests such as the German Ambassador, representatives from the Laotian Ministry of Education, and local government officials, to honor this significant milestone.
Christian Engel, CEO of BHS Corrugated and chairman of the foundation, traveled to Laos with two colleagues from Germany to pay tribute to the dedication of his mother and aunt. Twenty years ago, they founded the foundation to support education in Laos – a legacy that has positively impacted many lives to this day.
The celebration was a moment of recognition for the progress we’ve collectively achieved in both school and vocational education. We take pride in our accomplishments and are committed to continuing our educational collaboration over the next 20 years.
An exciting new development is the opportunity for Laotians to explore new prospects in nursing education in Germany.

At our foundation, we’re dedicated to fostering vocational training in close cooperation with the Lao-German Technical College in Vientiane. Every year, the German company BHS Corrugated awards 40 scholarships for vocational training in the mechanical and electrical sector. The training takes place both at the vocational school and in internship companies, based on the dual system in Germany. . 🛠️⚡
📘✨ Currently, two representatives from AfC Foundation are in Laos, conducting practical exams following German IHK standards. 📝 All 20 students have passed the exam.
But that’s not all! The brightest talents among them will have the incredible chance to embark on a three-year vocational training program at BHS Corrugated in Germany. 🌍👩🏭👨🏭

They’ve been conducting a practical training examination in the field of metal and electrical engineering at the Lao-German Technical College since yesterday, alongside a total of 20 motivated Laotian apprentices – aligned with German IHK standards. 🛠️⚡
The top performers in this examination will be given the exceptional opportunity to pursue a vocational training at BHS Corrugated in Germany. A stepping stone towards a promising professional future! ✨
But that’s not all! Sonja and Horst also visited the public secondary school in Phang Heng, which is supported by the AfC Foundation. In discussions with teachers and students, they assessed the infrastructure, equipment, and educational resources.

Congratulations Angels For Children & BHS from Germany 🇩🇪
An eventful first day in Laos! Sonja Prüll and Horst Lindner, both working for the Foundation Angels for Children in Germany, met today with the director and teachers of the Lao-German-Technical College in the Laotian capital, Vientiane. Their aim was to prepare for the upcoming practical training examination in the fields of metalwork and electronics (aligned with IHK standards) and an A2 level German test scheduled for next week. Subsequently, they visited the Laotian foundation director, Mrs. Bouangeun Hanthavong, at the elementary school in Sikeud to assess the school’s facilities and teaching materials. It was a productive time that provided us with insights into the education situation here! 💡📚
